The Alster offers a gentler waterborne view of Hamburg than the working harbour. Boats leave from Jungfernstieg and travel across the Inner and Outer Alster, passing waterfront hotels, parks and residential shores. From the water, the centre gives way surprisingly quickly to greenery and open sky.
