Amangalla Dining
Sri Lanka

Amangalla Dining is the food-and-drink offer at Amangalla in Galle Fort, on Sri Lanka’s south-west coast, set within the 17th-century ramparts of the UNESCO-listed fort at 10 Church Street. The current official pages treat it as part of the historic residence rather than a separate standalone restaurant. Its dining spaces sit inside a colonial-era house with a veranda to the street and formal rooms arranged around the property. The main Dining Room is used for breakfast and all-day dining, with a formal atmosphere shaped by period furniture, white linen and antique-style tableware. The Veranda serves breakfast, light lunches and candlelit dinners through the day. Menus combine Sri Lankan dishes with international brasserie-style cooking, and the house highlights local produce and regional flavours. Official material also says rice and curry has been served here in some form for more than 150 years. Other spaces broaden the offer beyond a single dining room. The Great Hall, known as Zaal, functions as a lounge, living room and bar for drinks, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. The Sunset Balcony is used for drinks and, by arrangement, afternoon tea. There are also dining settings in the pool courtyard and garden terrace, which host breakfasts, light lunches and private candlelit dinners within the property’s enclosed historic grounds. Private dining is an important part of the experience, with the official pages describing a chef’s table in the Library and a paddy-island roti dinner arranged by the hotel. The setting is defined by heritage architecture, chandeliered interiors, colonnaded verandas, mature gardens and views over either the fort streets or the pool courtyard, depending on the chosen space. The offer is presented as a sequence of atmospheric rooms and terraces, available to residents and, subject to availability, non-residents.
