Anegada Island

Anegada, British Virgin Islands

Anegada Island

Anegada earns its high place because it feels unlike anywhere else in the British Virgin Islands. Instead of steep volcanic slopes and enclosed bays, this low coral island opens into long beaches, salt ponds and pale, shallow water edged by reef. The experience is not about rushing to one monument, but about understanding a whole different landscape within the same archipelago. A rewarding day here usually mixes more than one element: time at Loblolly Bay, a look towards Horseshoe Reef, and, with luck, flamingos on the salt ponds. That breadth is exactly why the island itself is the stronger listing than an invented bundled label. For travellers trying to grasp the full range of the BVI rather than repeating another beach-bar stop, Anegada is essential.
