Apiri Greek Eatery
Heraklion, Greece; Agion Deka 5 and Kagiampi, Heraklion, Crete, Greece

Apiri Greek Eatery offers a contemporary contrast to Heraklion’s traditional tavernas. Its central location makes it convenient for a meal after exploring the old town, but the interior gives it a clear identity of its own: natural oak, a blue open kitchen and hundreds of suspended yellow elements turn the ceiling into a sculptural feature. Chef Stefanos Lavrenidis works with Greek references while allowing influences from further afield into the cooking. Published descriptions include an oxtail interpretation of hünkar, accompanied by smoked aubergine, Jerusalem artichoke and Metsovone cheese. It is a useful indication of the kitchen’s approach: recognisable flavours gain a different shape through texture, technique and carefully chosen accompaniments. The open kitchen makes that work part of the room’s energy, while the menu invites a more exploratory meal than a conventional sequence of taverna standards. One FNL star in 2026 provides independent recognition. Apiri earns its place here for the combination of culinary ambition and a setting with personality. Confirm the current menu and booking contact before visiting, as a standalone official restaurant website was not independently established during this research.
