Aposto
Iowa

Aposto occupies an 1880 Victorian mansion in Des Moines' historic Sherman Hill neighbourhood, a few blocks west of downtown. Founded by restaurateur Tony Lemmo, it brings an intimate, domestic scale to a dinner centred on Italian cooking and seasonal ingredients. The house provides much of the atmosphere, with individual rooms that make the experience feel personal. The residential streets around the house add to the sense of dining in a private home. The menu combines familiar Italian foundations with more individual touches. Recent dishes have included mushroom-filled agnolotti with garden pesto, cavatelli with house Calabrian sausage, and pork osso buco accompanied by collard greens and cornbread. Smaller plates and house-made desserts allow diners to build a meal at their own pace. Wine and conversation are natural parts of the experience. Aposto is well suited to a date or a small celebration, particularly for visitors who appreciate a historic setting and a menu with a clear personal voice.
