From the water, Udaipur's palace frontage becomes easier to take in: City Palace rises above the eastern shore, while the white Lake Palace sits on its island. A boat trip gives these buildings room to breathe beyond the narrow streets. Choose your departure point and route carefully, since a circuit of the lake and an excursion stopping at Jag Mandir are different outings. Late light is particularly attractive for photographs.
