Chapel Bridge and the Old Town
Lucerne, Switzerland

Start at Chapel Bridge, where a covered timber walkway crosses the Reuss beside the octagonal Water Tower. Look up at the historic painted panels rather than treating the bridge solely as a photograph stop. Much of the structure was rebuilt after the 1993 fire, a useful reminder that this is a living city landmark. Continue into the surrounding old-town streets and along the river, allowing time to notice the decorated façades and changing views across the water.
