Chini Ka Rauza

Chini Ka Rauza is one of Agra’s most rewarding secondary monuments for visitors who have already covered the city’s major icons and want to understand Mughal design in greater detail. The official Agra district tourism page identifies it as an ASI-protected monument and describes it as the tomb of Afzal Khan, a senior minister and scholar-poet at Shah Jahan’s court, built around 1635 on the left bank of the Yamuna. The same official page places it about 1 km north of Itimad-ud-Daulah, which provides clear in-city geographic context and supports its inclusion within the Agra city brief. What makes the site distinctive is its Persian glazed-tile decoration, the feature from which the monument takes its name. Official district information states that it is the only monument in Agra faced entirely in this kind of Persian tile work, with blue and turquoise tones still visible on the river-facing side. That gives Chini Ka Rauza a specialised appeal: this is a place for travellers interested in materials, surface ornament and the broader Indo-Persian story of Mughal architecture. It ranks eighth because it is comparatively niche and less central to a first visit, but it remains a strong choice for a more rounded city itinerary.
