Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire

Southern Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean

Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire is both a wildlife encounter and a conservation story. Official tourism material says the sanctuary was established in 1993 for sick, wounded and orphaned donkeys, and now houses more than 400 animals. The experience is gentle rather than dramatic: visitors can observe the donkeys in a protected setting, learn about the island’s feral donkey population and support ongoing care work. It places strongly because it is uniquely Bonairean, family-friendly and unmistakably tied to local stewardship. Unlike many generic animal attractions, this one is rooted in a specific island need and a long-running rescue effort. It pairs well with a south-side drive or as a calmer contrast to beaches and diving.
