Edinburgh Castle
Old Town, United Kingdom
Edinburgh Castle gives the city’s dramatic skyline a substantial historical centre. Within its walls, royal spaces, military collections and the Honours of Scotland reveal different layers of national life. The elevated setting also helps explain how the old city developed beneath it. Choose this as an early visit to give the rest of Edinburgh context, allowing time to move between buildings rather than treating the fortress simply as a viewpoint.
