Estancia Vik Jose Ignacio
Uruguay

Art and open country meet at Estancia Vik José Ignacio, a retreat set across 4,000 acres of Uruguayan countryside. Architect Marcelo Daglio used the language of a traditional Spanish colonial estancia, with white adobe walls, covered walkways and courtyards that invite guests outdoors. The twelve suites are individually conceived around works by contemporary Uruguayan artists. Sculpture, gardens and an organic herb garden extend that relationship between art and landscape through the shared spaces. Days can include riding with gauchos, canoeing, cycling or exploring on foot. A private polo field offers another way to engage with the estate's equestrian character, while the long black granite swimming pool provides a quieter alternative. Meals are served in the art-filled parrillero, beneath the dining room's brick vaults or beside the pool. With José Ignacio's beaches within reach, the estancia offers a countryside counterpoint to Uruguay's coastal scene.
