Explore Bryggen
Harbour, Norway

Bryggen’s colourful waterfront buildings are Bergen’s best-known sight, but the narrow passages behind them reward a closer look. The historic wharf preserves the layout and character of the Hanseatic trading quarter, with much of what survives rebuilt after the fire of 1702. Walk between timber buildings, workshops and small galleries rather than stopping at the harbour photograph. An early or late visit gives the lanes a quieter atmosphere and makes the details easier to notice.
