Flamingo Pond
Anegada, British Virgin Islands
Flamingo Pond gives Anegada a second identity beyond reef and beach. Inland from the shore, this salt-pond habitat offers the chance to look for West Indian flamingos in a landscape that feels open, exposed and ecologically fragile. The reward is observational rather than action-heavy, which makes it especially appealing for patient travellers interested in wildlife, photography and the quieter side of the islands. This is one of the experiences that most clearly broadens the BVI story. Instead of yachts, bars or snorkel masks, the emphasis is on habitat and the unusual flatness of Anegada itself. Sightings can never be guaranteed, but that uncertainty is part of the appeal, and few places in the territory shift the mood so distinctly.
