Giant’s Causeway
Bushmills, County Antrim

Northern Ireland’s signature natural landmark still stands above every rival for sheer recognisability and sense of place. The interlocking basalt columns, Atlantic setting and accompanying folklore give it unusual range: it satisfies geology-minded visitors, photographers and first-timers chasing the classic image, but it also rewards a longer visit on the surrounding clifftop paths. Even travellers who think they already know it from photographs usually find the scale and coastal drama more impressive in person. It also benefits from being a highly legible visit. National Trust management, interpretation and defined access make a famously busy site easier to navigate without turning it into a theme-park version of itself. As a flagship experience it is hard to dislodge, because it is both globally emblematic and deeply tied to the identity of the north Antrim coast.
