A cruise on Ha Long Bay is the defining experience in Ha Long city, but it is not a single standard product. Official management and provincial sources show that visitors can board authorised sightseeing services from city ports and choose between established bay routes, city-edge coastal circuits and newer linked itineraries. The Ha Long Bay Management Department notes that visitors should go through official port information points rather than touts outside the harbour, and that entrance fees and routes are managed formally. From 1 May 2025, the management authority began collecting fees for additional sightseeing routes including VHL6, VHL7 and VHL8, showing that route structure and pricing are actively administered rather than fixed forever. Recent provincial updates also confirm that Ha Long city’s waterfront is now part of newer products as well as classic bay cruising. In 2026, Quang Ninh publicised a cross-bay route linking Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay via Ha Long International Cruise Port and Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, and separately introduced traditional three-panel sailing boats running from the city wharf along the shoreline past landmarks such as Bai Tho Bridge, the Quang Ninh Museum and Hon Gai Beach.
