Heaven Restaurant looks across Kigali from an open-air terrace in the Kiyovu neighbourhood. Its modern African cooking and city views make it a distinctive place to begin exploring the capital's independent food scene. The menu combines local Rwandan and wider African influences with an international perspective. Relationships with farmers and an on-site organic garden give the kitchen a direct connection to its ingredients, including freshly picked herbs and salad leaves. The restaurant also belongs to a wider project supporting local hospitality skills and Rwandan makers. Art and craft have been displayed and sold around the property since its early years, allowing the setting to introduce more than food alone. A visit works well as a leisurely lunch or dinner before travelling onwards around Rwanda. The terrace provides the view, but the combination of contemporary African cuisine, local sourcing and links with artists gives Heaven its more lasting sense of place.
