Hijaz Railway Museum

King Abdulaziz Square, Al Anbariyah, Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Road, Madinah, Al Madinah Region, Saudi Arabia

Set in the former Ottoman Hijaz Railway station at Al Anbariyah, the Hijaz Railway Museum is one of Madinah’s clearest introductions to the city beyond the immediate experience of pilgrimage. Official Madinah material identifies this as the railway’s final station, opened in 1326 AH / 1908, within a site of about 90,000 square metres containing 12 service buildings. The station later ceased rail operations and was restored in 1419 AH / 1998 as a historical and archaeological museum. That layered history matters: the site explains how Madinah connected to wider pilgrimage routes, imperial infrastructure and the city’s own urban expansion. It also contains Al-Suqya Mosque within the station walls, adding a further local historical dimension. The museum’s strength for visitors is breadth. Official information says its galleries cover Madinah from the pre-Islamic period to the modern era, with displays on the Prophet’s era, manuscripts, inscriptions and preserved railway elements. The same source places it on Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Road at King Abdulaziz Square, about 1,020 metres from the Prophet’s Mosque. Visiting hours are listed as Saturday to Thursday, 8.00–13.00 and 16.00–21.00, with free entry and no reservation required. Ranked fifth, it earns its place as the city’s most useful general-history stop rather than as a primary devotional landmark.
