Albergo Italia is a historic hotel in central Asmara, built in 1899 and renovated in 2004. Its interiors retain early twentieth-century antique furniture, creating a direct connection with the building’s long history. Accommodation includes an Imperial Suite and suites named for their dominant red, green and yellow colours. Other rooms include double accommodation with loft layouts. Television, air conditioning, minibars and telephones add modern facilities within the older interiors. Two decorated restaurants and a bar complete the property’s shared spaces, bringing dining into the same historic setting as the rooms. The preserved furnishings give the hotel a distinctive character among the city’s accommodation.
