Hyangsan Hotel
North Korea

Hyangsan Hotel rises in a distinctive pyramid-shaped building in the Myohyang mountains. Built in 1986 and extensively renovated around 2009–10, the 15-storey hotel sits on the route towards the International Friendship Exhibition, Pohyon Temple and mountain hiking trails. Rooms have private balconies, connecting the accommodation to the wooded valley setting. A small revolving restaurant crowns the building, with other dining rooms and a coffee shop below. Its scale and mountain location make it one of the region’s most recognisable hotel buildings. The property provides accommodation within organised itineraries visiting the surrounding cultural sites and scenery.
