Imperial Palace

Innsbruck’s Imperial Palace tells two overlapping stories: the late-medieval residence of Maximilian I and the grander interiors created under Maria Theresa. The latter’s eighteenth-century rebuilding brought Viennese late-Baroque style to the city, transforming the state rooms into a display of Habsburg authority. Visit for the interiors and the history they reveal, then step into the nearby Hofgarten for a change of pace. It is an especially useful cultural anchor when mountain weather is uncertain.
