Jeongbang Waterfall

Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea

Jeongbang Waterfall is one of Jeju’s most distinctive coastal sights because the cascade meets the sea directly, an uncommon setting that official Korea tourism material describes as the only waterfall in Korea falling straight into the ocean. That sea-facing position gives it a markedly different character from inland cascades: visitors come not just for falling water, but for the immediate combination of cliff, rock shore and open southern coast. Within Seogwipo’s cluster of famous waterfalls, it is the one with the clearest sense of Jeju’s meeting point between volcanic landform and marine scenery. Its appeal is practical as well as visual. Jeongbang sits about 1.5 kilometres south-east of central Seogwipo according to official tourism information, so it works well as a half-day stop without complex transport arrangements or a long trek. Visitors should still expect stepped access and care around wet rocks near the shoreline, because the attraction’s character depends on getting close to the water rather than viewing it from a distant platform. In this list it ranks just below other island-defining headline sites, but it remains a highly representative Jeju experience: immediate, dramatic and closely tied to the geography of the island’s south coast.
