JORJ
Romania

The former Roberto's dining room at InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest has been relaunched as JORJ. Set just off Calea Victoriei, the restaurant brings a contemporary Mediterranean identity to the historic hotel, with banquette seating and an open kitchen placing the preparation of dinner in full view. The menu is built around the contrast between grilled dishes and chilled seafood. Josper-cooked mussels, grilled prawns and smoked burrata sit alongside sea bass ceviche, oysters and salmon tartare. This gives a meal room to move between delicate, fresh flavours and the deeper character of cooking over fire. More substantial dishes include Mangalitza pork neck, marinated lamb and flame-roasted chicken. Desserts continue the kitchen's interest in unexpected combinations, including tiramisu with smoked figs and hazelnut praline. A planted terrace adds an outdoor dimension overlooking Calea Victoriei. JORJ is suited to diners who want the setting of a landmark Bucharest hotel with a lively, visible kitchen and a broad menu. It works for a business lunch, a gathering with friends or a longer evening built around seafood, grilled dishes and conversation.
