Kisawa Sanctuary

Kisawa Sanctuary is an island hotel on Benguerra Island in Mozambique, on the southern tip of the island within the Bazaruto Archipelago. The property occupies a 300-hectare landscape of forest, beach and sand dunes, and its accommodation is made up of eight bespoke residences set for privacy along the coastline. Each residence has its own beachfront, private swimming pool, day area and outdoor kitchen, with a dedicated service team and an honorary bar stocked to personal preference. The residences are available in one-, two- and three-bedroom formats, and the larger configurations add a self-contained annex, making the accommodation suitable for couples, families or small groups. The design emphasises space and separation rather than a conventional resort layout, with individual plots and direct access to the shore. Kisawa also offers exclusive-use stays, so the whole site can be reserved for a fully private island experience. Dining at Kisawa is spread across several venues rather than a single restaurant. The Main Terrace serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner; the Garden Nursery focuses on produce from the regenerated permaculture garden; Cove Mussassa is a beach café and bar with seafood and share plates; Baracca serves Mozambican dishes with sunset views; and Pizza Tuk Tuk provides made-to-order pizzas. Guests can also dine in residence or in selected outdoor settings. Facilities include the Natural Wellness Center spa, with treatments available there or in residence, plus a yoga space, an air-conditioned gym, a 25-metre central pool and a sports locker for scuba equipment, snorkels, paddleboards and kayaks. The wider experience is shaped by beach and marine activities, tailored itineraries and a strong conservation ethos, including its partnership with the Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies and a programme rooted in local sourcing and environmental care.
