La Guarida
Cuba

La Guarida occupies an early twentieth-century palace on Concordia in Centro Habana, where grand architectural details share a building still used as a home by several families. The setting became known through the film Fresa y Chocolate before the restaurant opened in 1996. Its cooking gives Cuban ingredients a contemporary presentation. Malanga fritters, tamal with pepper sauce and grilled lobster with creamy rice are among the dishes associated with the kitchen. Fish with orange sauce and shredded beef provide other directions, with wines and cocktails accompanying the meal.
