La Hougue Bie

La Rue de la Hougue Bie, Grouville, Jersey, Channel Islands, JE3 9HQ

La Hougue Bie is one of Jersey’s most atmospheric heritage sites, combining prehistoric significance with a dramatic mound, underground spaces and a museum setting. It is especially appealing for visitors who enjoy archaeology, ritual landscapes and a quieter, more contemplative experience than the island’s larger fortress sites. The location in Grouville also makes it a useful east-coast stop between St Helier and Gorey. This is ranked fourth because it offers depth rather than spectacle: less instantly iconic than the castles, but uniquely important for understanding Jersey’s ancient past. Jersey Heritage includes it among the island’s principal places to visit, and Visit Jersey highlights it within the heritage offer. As with other Jersey Heritage sites, opening arrangements should be checked before travel, especially outside the core season.
