Le Petibonum

Le Carbet, Martinique

Le Petibonum

Le Petibonum occupies a beachside setting at Plage du Coin in Le Carbet, on Martinique’s Caribbean coast. The venue combines a restaurant, rum bar and space to spend time beside the sea, giving it the feel of a full afternoon destination as much as a place to sit down for a meal. Chef Guy Ferdinand’s cooking draws on Martinican produce and the island’s relationship with both land and water. The restaurant identifies local crayfish, lobster, marlin, tuna and regional meats among the ingredients that shape its menu. Creole influences and contemporary presentation come together in dishes that connect the beach setting with the wider agricultural and fishing traditions of Martinique. Rum is a substantial part of the experience, with a selection of agricultural rums from the island’s distilleries and flavoured preparations at the bar. Music and occasional events add energy to the venue, while the waterfront lends itself to a slower lunch and sunset drinks. Le Petibonum is particularly distinctive for bringing food, rum and the everyday pleasures of the coast into one informal setting.
