Marine Drive
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, South Mumbai, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Marine Drive is the city’s classic sea-facing promenade and one of the best places to understand Mumbai’s relationship with the coast. Official tourism material recommends it as a walk, and the long sweep of the boulevard gives visitors space to slow down after the density of the Fort and Colaba districts. The promenade is especially attractive at dusk and after dark, when the arc of streetlights creates the famous ‘Queen’s Necklace’ effect. It ranks below the major monuments because it is more of an experience than a single enclosed attraction, but that is also its strength: you come here for atmosphere, not a ticketed visit. Marine Drive is open and easy to combine with a South Mumbai day, especially around Chowpatty, Nariman Point or heritage stops nearby. There are no entry formalities for general use, though as with any public seafront, conditions can vary with weather and crowd levels. It is one of the simplest ways to enjoy the city.
