Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum
Koggala, Sri Lanka

This museum in Koggala offers a different perspective from Galle’s colonial buildings. Collections of agricultural tools, fishing equipment, pottery, metalwork and objects used in dance and ritual explore the skills and routines of rural Sri Lankan life. The complex also includes writer Martin Wickramasinghe’s ancestral home, with personal belongings and rooms that help place his work in its surroundings. Allow time for both the folk collections and the house; together they make a thoughtful stop on a day around Koggala.
