Mémorial ACTe
Pointe-à-Pitre, Grande-Terre, Guadeloupe, France

Mémorial ACTe is Guadeloupe’s most important cultural visit and one of the strongest museum experiences in the French Caribbean. Set on the former Darboussier sugar-factory site in Pointe-à-Pitre, it examines slavery, the slave trade and their legacies through permanent and temporary exhibitions, contemporary design and multimedia interpretation. It gives historical depth to a destination often approached first through scenery. The visit works particularly well early in a trip, because it reframes the archipelago beyond beaches and viewpoints. Even travellers who usually prioritise outdoor days often find it one of the most substantial stops in Guadeloupe, especially if they want context for the islands’ social history and modern identity.
