Monasterio, A Belmond Hotel

Monasterio occupies a former sixteenth-century monastery in Cusco, built on the foundations of an Inca palace. Cloistered courtyards, a centuries-old Andean cedar and an ornate Baroque chapel preserve its historic character, alongside a collection of Cusco School art. The building became a hotel in 1965. Spanish-colonial architecture frames 97 rooms and 20 suites, with selected suites offering added oxygen. Oqre serves Peruvian cooking in the courtyard, while El Tupay pairs international dining beneath stone arches with live opera. A bar offers cocktails and small plates, and a spa treatment suite provides a quieter retreat. The central address places Cusco's historic streets directly outside.
