Paraiso

Paraguay

Paraíso brings a family history of Chinese cooking to Asunción. Founded in 1998 by Shanghai-born chef Ji and his wife Maribel, the restaurant's main branch sits on Adela Speratti in Ciudad Nueva. Chinese lanterns, paintings and tableware share the interior with Maribel's plants, giving the room a personal character. The kitchen balances its Chinese roots with local preferences. Sweet and sour ribs are a house speciality, joined by fried rice, beef in oyster sauce, spring rolls and dumplings. Chicken with basil or chilli broadens the selection, while vegetarian dishes provide further choice. Seasoning is generally adapted to Paraguayan tastes, although diners can request more traditional preparations. This makes Paraíso approachable for newcomers while retaining a connection to the family recipes behind the business. Wines from Argentina, Chile and Italy sit alongside beer, sangria and soju. A meal here works well when several dishes are ordered for the table, allowing different flavours and textures to be explored together. The combination of an established family kitchen and a distinctive, plant-filled dining room gives the main restaurant appeal beyond a quick stop for Chinese food.
