Sandy Beach Resort
Tonga

Sandy Beach Resort sits at the quiet northern tip of Foa Island in Tonga’s Ha’apai group. Twelve fales stand in a beachfront tropical garden, each with a private terrace facing the Pacific. The rooms use tiled floors and straightforward furnishings, with king or twin beds, fans and tea- and coffee-making facilities. En-suite bathrooms have generous tiled showers supplied with solar-heated hot water. The main building brings together reception, the restaurant and bar, with a multilingual library and locally made handicrafts in the gift shop. Days can centre on the lagoon and beaches, with snorkelling, diving and whale encounters among the area’s activities. Bikes and kayaks are available through the resort. The dining terrace provides a gathering point, with changing fish and lobster dishes and drinks ranging from coconut water to cocktails. Sister property Matafonua Lodge, a short walk along the beach, adds another restaurant option.
