Changu Narayan occupies a hilltop above the eastern valley, with a two-tiered temple dedicated to Vishnu at its centre. The courtyard’s stone sculpture and the temple’s elaborate woodwork reward close attention, especially with a guide who can explain the figures. Look for Garuda and the different representations of Vishnu rather than simply circling the building. Combine the visit with Bhaktapur, allowing for the journey uphill and time to explore the surroundings.
