Sermermiut Valley trails

Ilulissat, Avannaata, Greenland; south-west of Ilulissat town near the icefjord

Sermermiut Valley is one of the most rewarding short-distance walks in Greenland because it combines natural drama with a strong sense of human history. The valley sits near Ilulissat Icefjord and gives travellers a direct route into the landscape without requiring a long expedition. It is especially effective as a half-day outing: walk the trail, stop at viewpoints and return to town with a sharper sense of how the icefjord shapes the area. What makes Sermermiut stand out is that it is accessible but not generic. The setting feels close to the town yet fully Arctic, and the trail is one of the best ways to appreciate scale, light and ice from the land rather than from a boat. For many visitors it becomes the most memorable walk of a Greenland trip.
