Shell Beach
Gustavia, Saint-Barthélemy, French West Indies; short walk from the centre of Gustavia.
Shell Beach is the island’s most atmospheric short-stroll beach, tucked into a rocky cove within walking distance of Gustavia’s harbour streets. Its shell-covered shoreline and protected feel make it a natural place to pause between shopping, lunch, and a harbour wander. Unlike the broad open beaches on the island’s coasts, this is a compact urban beach with a distinctly St Barts personality: easygoing by day, especially appealing later in the afternoon when the light softens over the bay. It places highly because it gives visitors a strong sense of place with minimal effort. You do not need a car, a half-day plan, or a watersports booking; you can simply descend from Gustavia and be on the sand almost immediately. That combination of convenience, scenery, and sunset appeal makes it one of the island’s most efficient and memorable stops.
