Shibuya Crossing and neighbourhood walk

Shibuya Crossing is compelling because it works. When the lights change, pedestrians spread across the junction in several directions, briefly filling a space normally assigned to traffic. Screens, signs and the station's constant movement give the scene its intensity, but the everyday choreography is more interesting than any claim about record-breaking crowds. Cross once with the flow, then step away from the busiest pavement and explore the surrounding district. Shibuya's shops and food streets reveal the relationship between fashion, entertainment and the railway network that keeps Tokyo moving. The crossing is an excellent starting point, but a poor endpoint for a visit intended to explain the neighbourhood. This experience needs neither a tour ticket nor an observation-deck booking. Elevated viewpoints, cafés and attractions are optional additions with their own admission or purchase conditions. At street level, keep moving on the crossing, avoid obstructing station exits and use designated pedestrian routes around construction or changed access. The station area continues to evolve, so an old exit number is less useful than current signage. Allow time to look at the buildings and smaller streets as well as the intersection itself.
