Snackbar opened in Oxford, Mississippi, in 2009 as John Currence's Southern brasserie in the Midtown Shopping Center. Part of the City Grocery Restaurant Group, it remains a neighbourhood restaurant with an emphasis on local ingredients when available. Raw oysters on the half shell and cocktails are central to the offer. The kitchen is now led by Sebastian Markowitz, a protégé of former executive chef Vishwesh Bhatt. Dinner is the main service, with separate dessert and drinks menus and a bar-focused happy hour. Its North Lamar address places it just beyond the restaurants around the town square.
