Soda Tapia
Costa Rica

Soda Tapia is a San José institution whose origins lie in Sabana Este, where it opened in 1965. Its Costa Rican café food ranges from substantial breakfasts to casados and generously filled sandwiches, with branches including Sabana and Nunciatura. At Nunciatura, breakfast choices include gallo pinto with eggs, sausage and sweet plantain. Casados bring rice, beans and salad together with chicken, beef or fish, while a vegetarian version includes eggs and fried cheese. Sandwiches and pressed breads offer a different direction, with combinations built around meat, beans and cheese. These dishes give the menu its everyday, local character.
