Jozankei follows the Toyohira River through a forested valley within Sapporo’s southern district. Hot-spring inns, public footbaths and seasonal scenery make it an appealing day away from the city centre, or a reason to stay overnight. Autumn brings vivid foliage, while winter changes the mood completely. Plan around a bath and the accessible village paths rather than assuming every riverside walk is open, particularly while construction affects the Futami Park area.
