St. Elmo Steak House

St. Elmo Steak House has occupied its original downtown Indianapolis brick building since 1902. Founded by Joe Stahr as a neighbourhood saloon, it retains a tiger-oak bar and a long-established connection to the city. Its defining starter is shrimp cocktail with a forceful, horseradish-rich sauce. The steak selection includes porterhouse, ribeye, filet mignon and New York strip, alongside dry-aged USDA Prime cuts from Midwestern Black Angus cattle. Classic accompaniments include creamed spinach, onion rings and potatoes Romanoff. Seafood, lamb and pork broaden the menu, while the upstairs 1933 Lounge provides a separate setting for cocktails before or after dinner.
