Sumac
Iceland

Sumac brings the flavours of North Africa and the Middle East to Reykjavík's Laugavegur, combining Icelandic ingredients with an approach shaped by fire, spice and sharing. The restaurant takes inspiration from a sweep of cuisines reaching from Morocco to Lebanon, with a bar serving cocktails influenced by the same region. A seven-course meze menu is designed for the whole table. Alternatively, dishes such as grilled flatbread with za'atar, falafel with tahini and amba, and roasted cauliflower with pomegranate and almonds can be assembled into a meal. Larger plates include grilled lamb ribs and mechoui chicken, while a grill platter combines lamb, chicken and prawns. Date cake with coffee ice cream extends the kitchen's spice-led approach into dessert.
