Surety Hotel

Surety Hotel occupies the 1913 Hippee Building in downtown Des Moines, a twelve-storey Beaux-Arts landmark originally associated with the Iowa Loan & Trust Company. Its conversion retains the building's banking heritage while introducing a modern interior with a mid-century influence. Guest accommodation ranges from king and twin-queen rooms to studios and suites, with views across the city. Mulberry Street Tavern gives traditional tavern food a broader international perspective, while the lobby accommodates morning coffee and evening cocktails. A courtyard extends the social spaces outdoors in warmer weather. The hotel's original commercial scale also allows for a ballroom, boardroom and other meeting spaces, alongside the Solarium. These rooms make the preserved building part of the city's working and social life as well as a place to stay.
