Tempelhofer Feld
Tempelhof-Schöneberg / Neukölln / Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany; Tempelhofer Damm, 12101 Berlin

Tempelhofer Feld is one of Berlin’s most distinctive public spaces: the former Tempelhof airfield, now a vast open park within the city. What makes it memorable is its scale and atmosphere rather than formal landscaping. You are walking, cycling or skating across a place where aircraft once used the runways, and that unusual sense of width and exposure is part of the experience. Official Berlin sources describe the field as a 300-hectare park opened to the public in 2010 after the airport’s closure, with the site lying between Tempelhof, Kreuzberg and Neukölln. It offers a very different perspective on Berlin from the city’s museum and monument circuit. This is best approached as a flexible outdoor visit. The official park page confirms free admission, seasonal entrance hours and access from Tempelhofer Damm, Columbiadamm and Oderstraße through main and side entrances. Cycling and skating are allowed on paved surfaces, while dogs must be on a lead outside designated areas and barbecuing is restricted to designated zones with the stated grill-height rule. The former terminal building sits at the edge of the field as a separate event venue, but the main draw here is the open landscape itself: a democratic, heavily used urban commons that feels unmistakably Berlin.
