The Bright Star
Alabama

The Bright Star began as a twelve-seat bar in Bessemer in 1907 and has occupied its present Realty Building address since 1915. The original dining room retains tile floors and restored hand-painted murals, giving meals a direct connection with the restaurant's early years. Greek family ownership helped shape its culinary character. The food brings together Southern traditions and Greek influences, illustrated by turnip greens and Greek-style beef tenderloin. Its longstanding repertoire spans the Southern meat-and-three tradition alongside steak and seafood dishes. Multiple dining rooms developed over the decades, expanding the restaurant around its historic core.
