The Great Migration viewing
Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania

The Great Migration is Serengeti’s most celebrated wildlife experience, and it is the closest thing the park has to a headline act. UNESCO identifies Serengeti National Park as a place of outstanding universal value, while TANAPA presents the migration as central to understanding the wider ecosystem and its seasonal rhythms. For visitors, the appeal is not simply the number of animals but the scale of movement: enormous herds crossing open plains, following rainfall and grazing patterns across a landscape shaped by survival and distance. Because timing and location change through the year, this is an experience that benefits from planning rather than spontaneity. Different areas of the park can offer very different viewing opportunities at different seasons, so flexibility is useful. Even so, migration viewing remains the most defining reason to come here, especially for travellers who want to experience the Serengeti at its most elemental. It suits first-time visitors as well as repeat safari-goers who want to see the ecosystem at its peak.
