The Lost Kitchen is Erin French’s restaurant in a historic mill in Freedom, Maine. The self-taught cook returned to her hometown to create a dining room with the scale and feeling of a home kitchen, beside the mill pond. Dinner reservations are arranged through a postcard system: selected cards lead to a telephone call to organise a date during the season. The format has become part of the restaurant’s identity, alongside French’s modern Maine farmhouse cooking. The mill setting ties the meal closely to the small town where her culinary story began.
