The Monkey Club
Barbados

At Sandy Lane, the dining room formerly known as L’Acajou has been reimagined as The Monkey Club. The hotel’s signature restaurant now follows a contemporary brasserie format, with a bar and lounge overlooking the lower terrace and the Caribbean beyond. The menu brings together seafood, steaks and familiar European dishes. Scallops with cauliflower, lobster linguine and Dover sole sit alongside steak frites, chicken Milanese and duck à l’orange. Vegetarian choices include green pea risotto and gnocchi with mozzarella. Desserts continue the brasserie theme, from apple tarte tatin to tiramisu, while a bespoke cocktail list gives the bar its own appeal. Sandy Lane’s Green Monkey gin, made with botanicals from Barbados and honey from the hotel’s bees, adds a local connection to the drinks offering. Music from a resident DJ gives selected evenings a livelier rhythm. With its ocean outlook, varied menu and smart dress code, the restaurant lends itself to an evening that begins with a cocktail and develops into a leisurely dinner.
