The Shack

The Shack occupies a small building just outside downtown Staunton, with a history that includes earlier uses as a doughnut shop, barbecue restaurant and bar. Founded by Ian Boden in 2014, it now follows chef Mike Skipper's cooking. The restaurant's changing menu keeps the experience responsive rather than fixed around a large permanent selection. Its compact setting puts the emphasis on the kitchen and the meal itself. Skipper's role marks a new chapter for an address long associated with Boden. The small scale and continuing evolution give The Shack a particular place in Staunton's food scene, distinct from Boden's later Maude & the Bear restaurant.
