Meals at Tongabezi can bring diners unusually close to the Zambezi. The lodge’s Sampan Dinner takes place on a private floating platform anchored in the river, reached by boat and lit by candles. A three-course meal arrives course by course in a canoe, with the sounds of the river around the table. Singing may accompany the service, adding a human voice to the hippos, frogs and birds heard from the water. Back at the lodge, River Cottages allow private meals on their decks. An organic garden tour and island picnic lunch also form part of the wider programme, connecting the dining experience with different parts of the riverbank and surrounding landscape.
