Trunk Bay
St. John
Trunk Bay is the classic postcard beach of the U.S. Virgin Islands, but it deserves its status for more than looks alone. The bright arc of sand, clear water and green hillside backdrop would be enough, yet the bay’s underwater snorkelling trail gives the visit an extra layer of purpose. Within the national-park setting, it feels less like a generic resort strand and more like a protected coastal experience that happens to be exceptionally photogenic. It remains just behind the national park overall because it is a single standout site rather than a full landscape of possibilities. Even so, it is one of the most immediately rewarding places in the territory for first-time visitors, swimmers and casual snorkellers. Go for a focused half-day beach outing or fit it into a wider north-shore circuit on St John. Either way, it earns its place as one of the USVI’s most recognisable and consistently praised experiences.
